Ex-army corporal arraigned for killing okada man in Aba

Abia state police command Wednesday arraigned an ex-army corporal, Ajayi Johnson who allegedly killing an okada rider at Umuokereke in Obingwa LGA.

The crime was allegedly committed on 7th August, 2019. 

In a charge sheet number U/587/2019 holding in the Magistrate Court 1, of Abia state, Nigeria, in the Umuahia North Magisterial District, the Police said that Ajayi Johnson, male, on 7th day of August,2019,at Umuokereke village, Ngwa Obingwa in the Obingwa Magisterial District, unlawfully killed one Chimaobi Jeremiah Nworgu,  male by shooting him with AK47 Rifle /Firearm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 319(1) of the Criminal code,cap 80,vol 3,Laws of Abia state of Nigeria 2005.

The matter which came under his Worship Linda Ugbaja when the presiding Magistrate asked the accused, who identified himself as Ajayi Johnson  aged 29 years from Kaba, Kogi state if he came with a lawyer and he said he was not granted access to one .

To this end, the Worship Ugbaja said the the Magistrate Court has no jurisdiction to entertain a murder case and  adjourned the matter to 16th September, 2019 to allow police to transfer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecution( DPP) Ministry of Justice, Abia state while the suspect was remanded in prison with no plea taken.

Speaking to Blueprint shortly after the court session, wife of killed Okada rider, Mrs Chiamaka Chimaobi, aged 19 cried for Justice, adding that the death of her husband was very painful.

She further explained that the murdered husband was the bread winner of the family as she is jobless.
