The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded its party primaries for the August 10 local government elections in the state with the immediate past Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Dr. Perekeme Bertola and seven others emerging as flag bearer for the party.

Others include the incumbent acting Caretaker Chairman of Ogbia local government Ebinyo Turner, the former caretaker Chairman of Southern Ijaw local government Kia Nigeria, the Caretaker Chairman of Brass local government, Hon. Victor Isiah.

Also nominated as flag bearers of the PDP are Uroupaye Nimiziwa for Yenagoa local Government and Embeleakpo Alale for Sagbama and Olalibo West for Nembe local government areas.

Meanwhile Five Ijaw Professional groups have expressed concern over the shoddy and controversial preparations by the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) towards the conduct of the election, urging the State Government and electoral body to ensure a rancour-free LG election that would earn the trust of the electorate.

The group said, “We find it urgent to call on all relevant government authorities, especially the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) and the Bayelsa State Government, to take every step and precaution necessary for the conduct of rancour-free LG elections that will earn the trust of the electorate, avoid bloodletting and genuinely bring government close to the people”.
