Ex-IGP Ibrahim Coomassie dies at 76

A former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Coomassie, has died.
Alhaji Coomasie died yesterday after battling protracted ailment.
His brother, Ahmad Muntaqa Coomasie, confirmed that he died in Katsina.
Coomassie was born in Katsina in 1946 and rose through the ranks to become the IGP in 1993, taking over from Aliyu Attah.
The retired top cop was classmate of President Muhammadu Buhari at the old Katsina College.
He retired from service at the end of military dispensation in 1999 and went into various community services.
He was Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Nigeria’ll miss his excellent lead- ership – Buhari Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family, government and people of Katsina state over the demise of his classmate and former Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie.
In a condolence message, the President said he received the news of the death of the Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum with shock and deep sense of loss.
“Nigeria will never forget the excellent leadership the late Coomassie gave to the Nigeria Police Force for the many years he served as IG,” he said.
He said his thoughts were with the deceased’s family and those mourning the demise of the late community leader and fine gentleman.
He prayed that the almighty Allah would receive his soul and give the family he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Coomassie’s death a great loss to Katsina, Nigeria – Masari Similarly, Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state has expressed sadness over the death of former Inspector General of Police and Sardaunan Katsina, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie.
In a condolence message issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr.
Abdu Labaran, the governor said in the death of Coomassie, who was also the Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Nigeria has lost one of its last standing patriots who served the nation with distinction.
The governor described the deceased as a highly patriotic, disciplined, reliable and committed Nigerian whose invaluable counsel would seriously be missed by Katsina state, Northern Nigeria and the nation in general.
