A former chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kano state chapter, Rev. Adeyemo A. Samuel, has said unity and peaceful co-existence among adherents of the respective religions was “a basic tool for achieving greatness by any nation willing to progress.”
Speaking to newsmen in Kano Friday at an inter-faith dialogue on the Validation of Religious Manual for Facilitators Guide, organised by ActionAid in conjunction with Disputes Resolutions and Development Initiative, Samuel said peace was sacrosanct under whatever guise.
He said, “No religion had ever legitimised violence in achieving any goal it is contained in every scripture that one came across. Our country Nigeria is great and highly revered all over the globe. We are abundantly blessed with the potentials to develop in every sphere. Using confrontation for parochial purposes is not the best.
“We are all created by God and made to co-exist in peace, tranquility and harmony. Using religious sentiment to cause chaos is condemnable and utterly despicable no matter what one use it as an excuse. I consider this an inter-faith dialogue and the validation of religious manual for facilitators guide as commendable and worthwhile.”
