Ex-Kuje chair decries growing insecurity

Immediate past chairman of Kuje area council, Alhaji Abdulahi Danladi Galadima has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The former chairman called on security agencies and influential residents to collaborate and find lasting solution to the situation which, he observed, has gotten out of hand already.

He suggested that new methods of policing should be adopted while neighbourhood watch units should be introduced in every village to work in close partnership with the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives to tackle insecurity.

Danladi Galadima, who spoke in an interview in Kuje, Thursday, also advised that known causes of insecurity such as unemployment, poverty and other social factors which lure youth into crime should be tackled head-on to reduce criminal activities in the country.

The former chairman, who was defeated by Danladi Sabo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), frowned at the criticism trailing his performance as chairman, and while faulting the comments, declared that no leader can satisfy the entire needs of the people or provide everything that the public requires while in office.

“Government is continuous everywhere. What one administration did not accomplish or provide; a new regime can provide it and also stop where necessary for another administration. This is how government works everywhere.

“Every administration grapples with its own particular challenges and my administration was not different. We were faced with several challenges on assuming office such as contract debt repayment, litigations and a huge backlog of workers’ salaries and allowances.

“These problems made it absolutely difficult for us to perform or do more than we accomplished in office but overall, I think we tried our best to pay the debt left by the previous administrations,” he said.
