Ex-militants task FG to intervene over non-payment of allowance

About 360 ex-militants from Berebegha camp have called on the federal government to intervene over the  none payment of their monthly stipends and benefits.

Their leader Mr. Mislaw Ganren alleges that the supervisor of the camp and coordinator of Ijaw Monitoring Group, General Joseph Evah has been siphoning their N65,000 monthly stipends since 2011.

He said: “Out of the 360 ex-agitators that in the camp only 184 get their monthly payment.

“Series of letters have been written to the Amnesty office during the tenure of General Paul Boro and Prof. Charles Dokubo to intervene on the matter but proved abortive.”

The Berebegha camp under the supervision  of Evah comprises of Peretorugbene, Enekekorogha, Ogriyagbene, Ayakoromo and Esaba communities, all in Bayelsa and Delta states.

Ganren, called on President Buhari’s administration to look into the activities of Joseph Evah and PAP coordinators.

The group appreciates the APC led federal government on the fight against corruption and insecurity, calling for intervention on the matter before it will escalate to something else.

He said, “360 ex-agitators have undergone entrepreneurship and skills acquisition training in different areas with certificates of participation and identity card bearing the name of Berebegha Camp with Joseph Evah as their substantive militant leader was issued to them”.

“A committee was also set up by General Joseph Evah and headed by an Ijaw musical mastreo, Chief Barrister Smooth, and Joseph promised to pay 30,000 and advised us to submit bank details to one Chief Badei but all meet a brick wall”.
