Ex-Super Eagles captain Mikel falls prey to social media trick

Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has been tricked into posting a fake comment by Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, Ruben Neves.

The fake post had Neves making a reference to how young midfielders at FC Porto were all tasked to make Mikel their reference point as midfielders.

The post quoted Neves saying, “At Porto, all midfielders were given DVDs of Mikel to take home and study every day. We used to call him the professor of football.”

Mikel, who failed to crosscheck the post replied the quote, “I am honoured.”

The quote first appeared on Twitter on March 24, 2019 and had been termed as fake, as it could not be linked to any news outlet.

Mikel, 32, featured for Chelsea between 2006 and 2017 and was capped by the club 372 times, scoring six goals and 13 assists.

The ex-international currently plays for Turkish side Trabzonspor.
