Two aircrafts belonging to Airpeace, Friday, landed at the Anambra State International Passengers and Cargo Airport in Umueri, Anambra East LGA, with wild jubilations.
Airpeace 5N-BUJ landed at about 2.31pm while Airpeace 5N-BVD landed at 2.47 to test run the airport. A private jet, 5N-EZU owned by another illustrious son of Anambra landed at 3.27pm.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Allen Onyema, the founder of Airpeace, who was onboard the first aircraft, and incidentally emerged as first passenger to land on the airport, described it as the biggest and best in Africa.
Onyema said he shaded tears of joy while landing the airport because its standard was beyond what he expected, very fast and promptly completed.
He assured that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration would soon approve the airport for commercial use, adding that it would create millions of jobs for the teaming populations.
Earlier, the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, said the airport was a revolution in the aviation industry as it took his administration 15 months to be completed.
Obiano, while maintaining that the airport has 3.7 runway, 11 Storey building Tower, and other facilities, assured the state would become hub for economic activities, and a socially stable state where both indigenes and non indigenes would thrive in their social and economic activities.
Traditional rulers, politicians, and other interested individuals where at the occasion to welcome the first international flight landing.
