Exercise Still Waters II: Army engages Akwa Ibom host community in football tourney 

The Nigerian Army, 2 Brigade in Uyo has engaged its host community in Mbiokporo in football tournament as part of activities marking Exercise Still Waters II.

The match was played between Team 2 Brigade and Young Stars Academy at Willington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa in Abak Local Government area of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

However, Young Stars Academy defeated Team 2 Brigade in a penalty shoot out with 5-4 score lines after the match ended in a full-time 1-1 draw 

Exercise Still Water II commenced on October 2, and will last till December 22, 2022.

In an Interview, shortly after the match, the Commander, 2 Brigade Garrison, Lt.-Col. Usman Adamu Uyo, noted that the match was part of the army strategy to promote civil-military relationship.

He said that the military was encouraging the synergy with civil population that would lead to a good cooperation while discharging it’s official security duties.

Adamu noted that the tournament was part of the exercise still waters II in line with the the Chief of Army Staff vision and directives to the 6 Division.

“We just finished a very interesting football match which is part of the Brigade’s civil-military activities of Exercise Still Water II .

“In line with the Chief of Army Staff vision and  directive to the 6 Division, Portharcourt, these activities are civil military activities line up for the brigade to cement the relationship with civil population not just for Exercise Still Waters but so far as we remain here in Uyo.

“Well, the 2 Brigade lost out in the tournament, it does not feel too good and at the same time it does not feel too bad but in line with the spirit of sport-manship  there are times to loose and win. As far as sport is concerned we can bear loses like this but in terms of duty proper, we don’t loose,” he added.
