Expert calls for preventive measures in health care delivery

A renowned vaccinologist Dr Simon Agwale has called on Nigerians to adopt disease-preventive measures for healthy living.
Dr Agwale who stated this in Abuja during the launch of Innovative Vaccines Limited, the first indigenous vaccine manufacturing and administering company in Nigeria, decried the rate at which vaccine-preventable diseases are ravaging Nigerians and called for sensitization.
According to him, Innovative Vaccines are concerned about disease eradication with research into past and future challenges of modern medicines.
He said: “With the upsurge of poverty in Africa, curative medicine will rather be cumbersome, and to an extent far less effective. Innovative Vaccines has vaccines against typhoid, hepatitis, polio, meningitis, rabies, tetanus, cholera and among others.”

Agwale also said his company has typhoid conjugate vaccine, which protects both children and adult for life.
He said: “Although some developing countries have ventured into vaccine production recently, no modern biotechnology company that produces vaccines exists in Africa, except one in Senegal. That is why we initiated local vaccine production and established high technological diagnosis for antibody titre testing.”
Also speaking, a Director of the company, Tanimu Adabson, said with the facilities in their establishment, potency of vaccines would be determined.
He said: “The efficacy of vaccines has become worrisome because some people still come down with ailments they were vaccinated against. With our modern equipment, people can know ailments they are protected against and the ones they need to be vaccinated.”
