Expert underscores Africa’s importance to EU energy future

The Chief Executive Officer of Enioil and gas, Claudio Descalzi, has said Africa has the potential to power the European Union (EU) in years to come.
Making this position known in statement in Abuja, Descalzi said global energy companies had a unique role to play in helping to develop energy sources in Africa.

He projected that Africa would soon become a source of energy supply to the world and themselves.
He said: “Africa represents an enormous opportunity because there is a strong complementarity with Europe.

We must invest in infrastructure in Africa. We must work with Africa to create an environment of peace and security. But this cannot be entrusted only to oil companies or the market. It is also a political issue.”
Descalzi said that at the moment, his company was exploring low cost natural gas like the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Mozambique.
He urged other operators to invest in Africa, especially the sub-saharan, to quickly realise the potential the continent holds.
