Expose your students to sunlight, Oyo directs head teachers

The Oyo state government has directed principals/head teachers across the state to expose their pupils and students to “direct sunlight” for 30 minutes on a daily basis.

This was contained in a circular signed by the state Commissioner for Education, Olasunkanmi Aremu Olaleye to principals/heads of schools and other stakeholders.

The state government in the circular dated 2nd July entitled “Re: Resumption of School after COVID- 19 Pandemic lockdown,” mandated that “only approved private schools with certificate of attendance at the training on COVID-19 protocols are allowed to open.”

The circular reads in part:  “In furtherance to circular earlier released on the above subject, regarding resumption of students in terminal classes (Pry 6, JSS3 and SSS3) on Monday, 6th July, 2020. I wish to emphasize the under listed:

“(1) Only approved private schools with certificate of attendance at the training on COVID-19 protocols are allowed to open, (2) Each class should have a class warder, whose responsibility would be to ensure strict compliance to COVID- 19 protocols.”

Oyo state government added in the circular that the principals/head teachers are to ensure that “visitors are not allowed in school premises and that use of school facilities for social engagement is suspended till further notice.

The government directed that “closing time for all grades of schools is 1.00pm till further notice.”
