Extend hands of fellowship to opposition, ICPAN beckons Buhari

The Institute of Corporate and Public Administrators of Nigeria (ICPAN) has called on President Muhamadu Buhari to extend the hand of fellowship to every section of the country in his appointment.

The institute equally enjoined Buhari’s administration to do everything possible in uniting Nigerians.

A member of the institute and an icon of excellence awardee, Dr. Christopher Emefiele made the plea in Abuja at the 2019 conferment of honourary doctorate, fellowship and investiture of full members/associate members.

He said, “President Buhari must leave a mark before the end of his second tenure; he has the ability to bring everyone in this country together; I urged Mr. President to extend the hand of fellowship to every section of this country in his appointment.

“Nigeria is always at her best when we are united, Nigeria is a volatile country, a multi ethnic society, a diverse society where unity is needed irrespective of tribe and religion.

“This is the period when we need healing for the country, President Muhamadu Buhari should use this good office to unite us and do the healing for us through his appointment,” he stressed

Emefiele added that the country’s democracy was still very young and call on everyone to stand up and participate in politics by voting during elections.

According to him, voting during election will help to discourage rigging and carry the country’s democracy into a higher level.

He nevertheless, called on those who are not contented with the recent concluded general election to visit the court and seek for justice.

“Anyone that feels he or she has been rigged out during the election should proceed to the court, the court is the last hope of the common man, I have hope in the country judicial system.

Emefiele said that the award of excellence would spur him to do more and thank the management of the institute for counting him worthy of the award.

Another member of the institute, Mrs. Adewumi Oluwakemi, also called on president Buhari to include women in his incoming government by given them 35 percent affirmative action, saying women are good managers.

Oluwakemi who runs an NGO, Tekem Empowerment Initiative, also called on the president to create a programme that would cater for the widows in the society

“Government should focus basic education with vocational subject and also create a programme to cater for the widows, they are the ones taking care of the children, the burden on them is so much to show concern and help them alleviate it.
