Extra-judicial killings: Family petitions IGP against police in Jos

The father of Usman Muhammad, a 16-year-old son, Malam Bala Muhammad, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), over alleged  extra-judicial killing of Usman by suspected men of the Nigeria Police Force in Jos.

The petition signed by Akibu P. Idris Esq., for his client (Malam Bala Muhammad), said the police attached to ‘C’ Division, Jos, the Plateau state capital, “shot Usman Muhammad, an artisan, at close range while trying to effect the arrest of some Okada riders.”

It said the men of the police had, on 21st September, 2022, in the evening fired gun shots along New Market Road, Jos,  and the bullet hit Usman who was rushed to Our Lady of Fatima Hospital.

“Few minutes after all efforts were made by the doctors on duty to rescue the life of his son, the doctors confirmed to our client that his son Usman was dead,” it said.

The petition stated further that the deceased’s father quickly rushed to report the incident at the Salisu Adamu outpost where the incident occurred and  the police officer on duty referred him to the ‘C’ Division.

However, some armed security personnel at the ‘C’ Division denied them entry to the station.
