Extra-judicial killings: JNI wants probe of military operations in North-east

Less than 24 hours after the National Human Right Commission’s investigation into the Apo killings indicted security agencies, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on the commission to investigate the operations of the military in the North-east zone for extra-judicial killings and wanton maiming of Muslims in the region.

JNI’s Secretary-General, Dr Khalid Aliyu, who berated the Senate for giving the Directorate of the State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Army clean bill of health over the Apo killings, said it had been vindicated by its cries of grand agenda against Muslims in the country.

Speaking in a statement yesterday in Kaduna, Khalid said: “JNI applauds the giant stride and bold step taken by the Nigerian Human Rights Commission in following the extrajudicial killing of innocent Muslims by the joint SSS and military operation in Apo village last year to the logical conclusion.

“This rare effort by the commission vindicates JNI’s stand regarding the unprofessional handling of security challenges by our security personnel which appears to be triggered by motives yet unknown, which time will certainly unveil.
“JNI calls on the Nigerian Human Rights Commission to extend its investigations and feed the Nigerian people and international community with the truth of what is going on daily against innocent Nigerians.”
