Failed governance, gross injustice responsible for secession agitations – Fr. Ehusani

The Executive Director of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation, Rev. Fr. George Ehusani, has disclosed that failed governance, gross injustice and inequity are some of the factors responsible for the growing calls for secession agitations in the country.

Nigeria, a country with over 200million population is currently experiencing growing calls for secession by its citizens over alleged injustice and security challenges.

Ehusani, who spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the opening session of a two- day North Central zonal dialogue on the state of the nation, also lamented the current state of the nation, which according to him, was characterised by distrust, widespread insecurity and socio-economic dislocation.

This, he said, had given rise to the demand for self determination by some segments of the polity.

Ehusani, who also disclosed that Nigeria is currently sliding towards collapse, expressed his conviction that all hope was not lost and that Nigeria is still redeemable.

He, however, called for intensive dialogue among all Nigerian stakeholders in order to salvage the country.

The event, which was organised by the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation in partnership with the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development, had in attendance four elected delegates each from Benue, Nassarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara and Plateau states.

Also, eminent Nigerians including the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Onayiekan; Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum and former Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh; former Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, attended the event.

In their separate remarks, Onayiekan, Ogbeh and Maku, called for justice, fairness, equity and inclusiveness as a panacea for peace, unity, security and prosperity for Nigeria and Nigerians.
