Fake news inimical to Nigeria’s unity, growth – Akinduro

The Chairman, Total Grace Group, Dr Henry Mobolaji Akinduro, has asked journalists in the country to steer clear of fake news in the overall interest of Nigeria and its people.

Dr Akinduro stated this in Ibadan on Sunday, while speaking at his investiture as the Patron of Oyo state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held at the council’s Secretariat, Iyaganku.

The new Oyo NUJ Patron maintained that doing away with fake news will go a long way in enhancing and  promotion of national development, saying, ” promotion of fake news  is dangerous to the community”, saying, “journalism is not all about news. We must verify information about news very well as a journalist before we display them.

” Fake news is dangerous to the community and the most information I want to pass across today is to make sure that all journalist verify their information very well before they display it,’’  he said.

Dr Akinduro added, “A situation which you promote more of the victory of the military over the incident that happens through Boko Haram and bandits. I think that will help a lot.’’

While urging journalists to do more on the security challenges bedeviling the nation, emphasized journalists to always promote the victory of Nigerian military over bandits and terrorists.

He however, lauded Oyo NUJ for appreciating his contributions to the society, promising to do more for the union and humanity.

In his remarks, Oyo state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola declared that Dr Akinduro’s service to humanity  was the hallmark of the present administration in Oyo State, saying, the new Patron stands as a God’s vessel who had continuously propagate the ideals of a typical Yoruba man.

“Our new patron is not the richest or wealthiest Nigerian today, but he is wired with the spirit of attending to the needs of the people everywhere.

“For today’s event, we have brought before you, a man so passionate about humanity; an unrepentant philanthropist, a workaholic, a trailblazer, a shining star, a honest, God-fearing, diligent and wonderful personality”, he said.

The Oyo NUJ Chairman added, “He is a God’s vessel, propagating ideals of a typical Yoruba Omoluabi. He comes across as a devout Christian having had Deeper Life background as a staunch worshipper for decades.’’
