Fake wine factory uncovered in Delta, suspect arrested

The Delta state Police Command on Thursday said it has uncovered a fake wine factory in Amadaga community in Udu local government area of the state.

The state police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe who revealed this in Asaba, said the suspected sole manufacturer has been arrested for thorough investigation and prosecution.

DSP Edafe said operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) made the breakthrough during a sting operation in collaboration with civilian anti-cult volunteer corps in the area.

The police imagemaker said the suspect, one Kenneth Ajie, allegedly converted his house in Amadaga community in Ovwian, Udu local government area of the state, to the illegal factory where he produces the fake alcohol for people’s consumption.

According to him, “the suspect who produces these fake wines in his house, operate without any license.

“According to the suspect, he sells the wine for N300.00 per bottle and N3, 600 per carton.

“He confessed that he bottles the wine himself, using bottles that had already been used and disposed off.

“And he buys these bottles at N10.00 per bottle, and he also buys the cork from open market.

“He claims he washes the bottles himself, cork the wines himself, and sells to the members of the public.

PPRO said the suspect works alone and produces about one to three cartons per day.

Edafe said the exhibits, including bottles of the drinks suspected to be fake alcoholic wine were recovered, saying the matter was still being investigated.
