Family wants pregnant member’s killers prosecuted

Family members of a pregnant woman, Mrs. Asabe Usman Obaje, who was recently murdered at Odogomu in Ankpa LGA of Kogi state have asked the police to prosecute the killers. A relative of the deceased, Mr. Paul Obaje, said the woman was returning from Odogomu to her village in Ofano at about 6pm on July 12 when she was ambushed and killed by hoodlums. He said the criminal elements used machetes to kill the woman, adding that one of her legs was dismembered and her throat slit before she was dumped by the roadside. Obaje, who disclosed that the woman was pregnant with twins, described the killing as “barbaric and inhuman.”

He lamented that the police in the area were handling the matter with levity. Th e Public Relations Offi cer of the Kogi Police Command, Mr. Williams Aya, when contacted, said the suspects had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lokoja for further interrogation, adding that it was a case of culpable homicide and that the Command would not treat it with levity. He gave the assurance that the suspects would be charged to court “as soon as investigations are concluded
