FAO distributes seeds, fertilizers to 1000 households in Adamawa

As part of its post insurgency recovery support initiative in the North-east, the food and agricultural organisation ( FAO) a global food and agricultural agency has distributed free cropping seeds and fertilizers to 1000 farming households  displaced by the insurgency in Adamawa state

Speaking at the end of seed fair Monday in Gombi local government area of Adamawa state, the North-east emergency officer of FAO Omondi polycarb said a total number of 8,900 farming households will benefits from the gesture in Adamawa state.

He further explained that a total number of 98,000 households were targeted to benefits from the programme in the entire North-east

Also speaking at the event, the programme coordinator civil society coalition for poverty eradication ( CISCOPE) the implementing agency for the FAO peter Ekwedah  said,”the gesture is targeted to boko haram victims returning back to their communities.”

He said, “this is the first time the programme is holding in Adamawa  but it has been implemented in funnel and potiskum local government areas of Yobe state  with 5,000 households benefited from genetically improved seeds, varieties and fertilizers offered by FAO.”

According to him, “what the FAO has done through  CISCOPE is to assist most households not just by giving them food  but to empowered them with improved seeds and fertilizers as a form of livelihood support since they are predominantly farmers.”
