Farmer remanded for armed robbery

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court has remanded a farmer, James Iorhemen, 35, for alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Franca Yuwa, said that the accused would remain in prison pending the legal advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Prosecutor, Mr. James Onwone, had told the court that, the case was reported by one Jessica and Rachael Amos, both of Taraku,  to the B’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, on February 28, 2014.
Onwone said that the complainant had reported that they were sleeping at home when armed robbers numbering about 15 and dressed in military uniform attacked them.
According to the complainant, “They were beaten at gunpoint and N25, 000 cash was taken from them by the robbers,’’ the prosecutor said.

He said that the robbers broke into one Uche Ugbaa’s room, inflicted injuries on him, and made away with N10,300.
Onwone said that police investigations revealed that Iorhemen, who lives at Taraku, Gwer Local Government Area, allegedly, conspired with the armed robbers to commit the crime.
He said the offences contravened sections 6(c) and 1(2) (a), (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap RII Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Plea, however, was not taken of the accused because of issues of jurisdiction.
Yuwa adjourned the case until April 25, for mention.
