Farmers urged to engage agric extension workers

Senator Abdullahi Adamu has urged farmers to approach agricultural extension workers in other to get the best information on their profession as farmers.

Adamu made the called while fielding questions from journalists on the sideline of the inauguration of Livestock Policy Hub members and a workshop titled “Reinforcing Veterinary Government in Nigeria (Vet-Gov). Vet-Gov programme is run by African Bauru for Animal Resources for the African continent.

The main objective of this programme is to facilitate the formulation of policies, strategies and legislations in each member state of the continent to enhance livestock production.
Adamu said farmers would make maximum profit if they come closer to extension workers to get appropriate and recent information that would grow their farms.

“Livestock is one of the primary sub-sectors in the agricultural sector that you cannot afford to play with because it is through livestock that we get the basic nutrition human being require from birth.
“As it is today, we are still wanting, we have a population close to 200 million people and the responsibility of government to ensure the basic nutrition is enormous.
“Vet-Gov is essentially about helping government take a look at the general environment for veterinary and livestock development in Nigeria.

“I urge farmers to approach agricultural extension farmers so as to get the best information that would benefit them on their profession as farmers.’’, he said.
Aliero lamented the lack of market information and policies that would enable livestock farmers add value to his product saying that Vet-Gov would help put things in place.
