Fashola unveils Agege transfer loading station

Governor of Lagos state, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has unveiled the Agege Transfer Loading Station and charged residents of the state not to stand in the way of government’s effort to deliver on its promises.

The TLS serves as a temporary dumpsite where waste would be deposited during the day and compacted to smaller volumes and then moved in the night with fewer vehicles when traffic has eased off.
Speaking at the project site at Oba Ogunji, Fashola said most of the abandoned projects in the state were caused by litigations from the residents.

He said the Agege TLS might not have come to fruition realized if the people had not let go their hold on land.
He said: “The Agege TLS is a possibility today because some people agreed to let go of their titles on the land for the betterment of the majority. The state is, however, still contending with the problem of people instituting court cases to stop government from embarking on public projects such as the latest report of a court injunction asking the state to stop work on the Osborne Jetty which is nearing completion.

“The state government is providing additional loading stations; new developments are also coming up as smart entrepreneurs are keen on taking on the management of the refuse dumps by turning them into recycling plants.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the vice chairman of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAN), Mr. Taju Ekemode, said the construction of TLS stations at strategic locations across the state “has reduced to the barest minimum the number of trucks that would be required to transfer large quantities of waste to its final destination thereby reducing their impact on traffic.”
