FCE Okene gets new provost

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Umar Hassan as the substantive Provost of the Federal College of Education, Okene, Kogi state.
A statement signed by the acting Deputy Director, Directorate of Information of the college, Mallam Jibril Abdulrahaman, said the appointment took effect from September 26th, 2017.
The statement added that Hassan, who holds Ph.D in Health Education, was until his appointment, a Chief Lecturer in the department of Physical and Health Education at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
Born in April 20th, 1961 in Gusau, Sokoto state, Hassan had his early education at SMI Primary School, Gusau, from 1967 to 1973. He was at the college of education between 1978 and 1981for his NCE certificate and proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained his B.Ed. in Physical and Health Education in 1984.
From 1988-1990, Dr Hassan was at University of Ibadan where he bagged his Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Between 1994 and 2000 he obtained his PhD in education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
As a teacher, the statement said, Hassan rose through the ranks as an Assistant Lecturer in 1986 to Chief Lecturer in 2005 where he headed
various positions of responsibilities which included Head of Department of Physical and Health Education, Dean, School of Sciences, among others.
“The new Provost is a seasoned researcher and erudite scholar of international repute. He has to his credit over thirteen publications and numerous seminar papers. He has presented over twenty conferences and workshop papers with research output in some other critical areas
of both primary and basic education in Sokoto, Katsina and Niger states” the statement said.
