Federal College of Education (FCE) Okene has matriculated 1,606 students into the institution with a charge on them to shun all forms of immoral behaviours and acts inimical to their studies.
Addressing the new students at the matriculation of regular NCE 1 , 2017/2018 academic session, the Provost of the College, Dr Umar Hassan, said of the 1, 606 students offered admission, 563 are male and 1042 female.
While giving the breakdown of the figure, Hassan revealed that there “are 52 in the School of Adult, Non-formal and Special Education, 559 in the School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Early Childhood Care and Primary Education has 189 students, 44 in the school of languages, 458 are in the school of sciences and 304 in the school of Vocational Education.
Reiterating the zero tolerance of the college on cultism, examination malpractices, hard drugs abuse, sexual harassment, indecent dressing, among others, the Provost advised the students to learn how to tolerate and key into a process of life time.
The Provost, who urged the entire college community to continue to maintain the peace the institution have been enjoying in the campus, charged the students to be moderate and tolerant in their conducts According to him “As a responsive administration, we would continue to sustain and improve on the cherished legacies the college is known for, for the growth and development of our society and the nation at large.
“In this regard, our strategic developmental plans for the college are based on the sustainability of peaceful co-existence, enhanced staff and students welfare, aggressive staff and infrastructural development” “The mission statement of the college is to enable it achieve academic excellence by producing distinctive students who are outstanding in Knowledge, culture, moral behaviour through teaching and learning.
All these should be embraced by the matriculating students in order to be productive with our certificates after graduation “I am charging the matriculating students to tap from the potentials abound in the college in the area of educational facilities that will greatly help you in your studies” The Provost, however, assured the new students that the management would not relent in its effort at providing conducive environment for both teaching and learning.
The Registrar of the college, Mr.
Peter Ovansa Otohomorihi, charged the new students to focus and priotized their studies to justify their parents financial commitment on them.
One of the matriculating students, Miss Blessing Emmanuel of the School of Early Childhood Care Education who speaks to Blueprint Correspondent promised to adhere to the all the rules and regulations of college as spelt out in the student handbook given to them.
