FCT: CP orders arrest of ‘killer cop’, investigation into Karmo killing



The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, CP Bala Ciroma, has ordered investigation into a gunshot incident that led to the death of one Solomon Eze, 52, at Karimo, a suburb if the FCT, on Sunday at about 6pm.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, DSP Anjugiri Manzah, in a press statement, Monday in Abuja, said the Policeman identified to have shot the deceased has been arrested and being held in detention.


He said, “While commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police wishes to assure members of the public that the Command will be transparent in its investigation and the findings will be made public.”Meanwhile, Blueprint checks revealed that the shooting incident followed an operation by some policemen who had gone to arrest a suspect in an on-going investigation.


They were said to have successfully arrested the suspect but while they were trying to take him away he started shouting to draw attention of the people claiming he was being illegally arrested.
According to a senior police officer, who spoke on condition but f anonymity, the officers feared for their lives as they were outnumbered by the crowd that had gathered, even as some of the people demanded that the suspect should be released, and trust Nigerians they gathered and had shot in the air to disperse the crowd but the deceased was hit and in the confusion the suspect escaped.


The officer, who said efforts were in to arrest the fleeing suspect, however, assured that the CP was committed to ensuring the justice was not only done in the matter but seen to have been done.
When contacted to give further details on the incident the FCT PPRO said investigation was on-going and more details would be made public in due course.
