FCT FADAMA III unveils scheme for unemployed youth, women in farming


It was a cheerful moments for unemployed youths and women in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the FCT FADAMA III recently flagged-off the distribution of fertilizers to Fadama Graduate Unemployed Youth and Women Agropreneur Support (FADAMA GUYS) Scheme. 

Some of the beneficiaries who couldn’t hold their excited said the fertilizer will go a long way to boost farming this season.

A beneficiary, Hassan Ibrahim who spoke to Blueprint during the flag-off said it will boost farming activities as well as increase food for residents of the FCT and its environs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat Mr Olufemi Folarin explained that the distribution of fertilizers to beneficiaries is Fadama Graduate Unemployed Youth and Women Agropreneur Support (FADAMA GUYS) Scheme in FCT who are into crop production. 

He said the FCT administration is committed to successful implementation of the FADAMA GUYS scheme in the FCT. 

He said the administration objective’s strategic objective of youth empowerment through agriculture in order to support the attainment of food and nutritional security in FCT.

He lauded the FCT FADAMA III Additional Financing project implementation team for ensuring the successful and effective implementation of the project. 

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of it in order to boost their yield and increase their profits.

Also, the Acting Project Coordinator of FCT FADAMA III Additional Financing Project Rotimi Ajayi lauded the FCT Administration in partnership with the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariate (ARDS)for the support.

Ajayi said the FCT FADAMA III coordination office in collaboration with Best Multi Service Global Resources is conducting one day training on feed formulation and compounding using a smart phone mobile application tagged “Feed Calculator” for beneficiaries that are into poultry and fishery.

“This is intended to reduce their cost of production while boosting their productivity and profitability,” he said.
