FCT Fadama trains 3,300 farmers

As part of eff orts to enhance the federal government’s zero reject programme, the FCT FADAMA III addition fi nancing project has commenced another capacity building training for over 3300 farmers in rice, cassava and sorghum in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the 2017 rain fed farming season in FCT. Th e training which is one of the pillars upon which the implementation of the project is anchored, according the FCT FADAMA Coordinator, Alhaji, Abdullahi Danladi Salisu, was to support the building of capacities of production groups and clusters. Salisu, who was represented by the Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Usman Adangara, said the training is provided to enable the farmers carry out participatory planning, implement, manage and maintain their farm businesses. He said it also empowers them with negotiation skills, confl ict management skills as well as the capacity to identify and exploit market opportunities.

“Th e successful development and sustenance of viable farm enterprises by our rural farmers, most of who have little or no formal education largely depends on the provision of requisite capacity building trainings by the project to impart managerial negotiation and analytical skills to the farmers. developments, particularly in the fi elds of science and technology, it therefore becomes imperative for our farmers to adjust and key into these new ways of life if they are to achieve meaningful results,” he said. Th e acting secretry, agriculture and rural development secretariat, in the FCT, Dr Musa Aliyu, who was represented by the director agricultural development project, Alhaji Tijjani Lamidi, said the FCT is making eff orts towards improving the lots of the farmers through several interventions. “Intervention such as the sale of agricultural inputs to farmers at a subsidized rate of 50% and several other programmes aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in FCT
