Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu has inaugurated a ministerial committee to determine modalities for the procurement of fertilizers and agricultural inputs for the 2021 farming season.
While inaugurating the 5-member committee, the minister charged them to ensure they deliver on the assignment within two weeks, adding that time is of the essence.
The minister who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Prof. Muhammad Usman, also tasked members of the committee to come up with ideas that would assist the FCT Administration to define ways of supporting farmers to improve productivity.
The terms of reference of the committee, according to the minister, include determine the modalities for the timely purchase and distribution of fertilizer and non-fertilizer inputs for the 2021 farming season, and review the farming activities of groups and corporate entities in the FCT and define ways of supporting them to improve productivity.
Others include review the farming calendar in the Federal Capital Territory and make recommendations for optimizing food production and examine any other matter relevant to the exercise of the mandate and make recommendations as appropriate.
Aliyu, also stated that the committee is at liberty to extend its scope with a view to achieving the set goals and objectives.
Responding on behalf of other members, the chairman of the Ministerial Committee and Special Assistant to FCT Minister of State on Special Duties, Malam Abubakar Ibrahim, thanked the minister for the confidence reposed in them, just as he pledged the commitment of the committee to deliver on the assigned mandates.
