FCT monarch commends qualify membership of ICOSD

The Sa’karuyi of Karu in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Emmanuel Yepkwi, has commended the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the International Christian Organisation for Sustainable Development (ICOSD) for strides in the growth and quality of its membership.

The monarch gave the commendation when the president of the organisation, Bishop Joseph Vambe, visited him in his Karu palace to brief him on the preparation for the inauguration/launch of ICOSD slated for October this year.

The royal father who is also the vice chairman ICOSD BoT, urged government at all levels to establish and empower inter-religious councils to effectively mobilise the people on religious tolerance.

The Sa’karuyi stated that the councils, to be made up of respected Christians and Muslim leaders, could tackle the problem of intolerance among their followers, particularly in identified volatile areas.

He decried the lukewarm attitude of some state governments which do not carry religious groups along in their mobilisation programmes for peace.

He said state governments should realise the need to accept and use faith-based organisations to effectively pass useful development messages to the public.
