FCT Monarch demands concerted action against insecurity

The Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers in the Federal Capital Territory [FCT], HRH Dr. Adamu Baba Yunusa, has called for more coordinated and concerted efforts on the part of security agencies and the various tiers of government to reduce insecurity in the territory.

Dr. Adamu Baba Yunusa, who is also the Onah [Ruler] of Abaji Area Council, observed in an interview with newsmen that residents of Abuja cannot sleep again with two eyes closed due to increasing harassment by armed gangs.

He pointed that the rate of kidnapping and armed robbery have doubled in rural areas especially in Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada Kuje and Bwari area councils “even with the presence of local vigilante who are not properly equipped to engage the criminals.”

“Kidnapping has become a very worrisome issue for us now in Abaji and other area councils. The boys will just pick anybody they like and start demanding N5 million or N10million without asking where the relatives of the victims will get that type of money.

“We want government to do whatever is necessary to solve this problem which has become a national malady. The federal, state and FCT administrations are trying but we urge them to do more by providing better equipment and training for security personnel.

“We have vigilante who work with the police but they are not enough. We want more and they do not have the type of equipment to face the criminals. The Federal Government should allow the vigilante groups to carry the necessary equipment to face the bandits without fearing for their safety,” the first class monarch said.
