FCT Police nab 22 suspects for murder, robbery, others

The FCT Police command has arrested 22 suspects over alleged involvement in murder, armed and ‘one chance’ robbery, and vandalism in the territory.
Parading the suspects yesterday at the command headquarters, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), DCP Salisu H.
Gyadi-Gyadi, attributed the arrests to the proactive crime fighting measures deployed by the command and the support of the public.
He said that some of the suspects included a taxi driver, Emmanuel Nwori, who is a member of a ‘one chance’ robbery gang and was arrested on September 4, 2018, in connection with the gruesome murder of one Umo Monday.
DCP Gyadi-Gyadi explained that Monday had boarded the suspect’s taxi, not knowing that other passengers were members of the same gang and when he resisted their attempt to rob him, one of the gang members shot and killed him.
He said the suspect, who confessed to the crime, said they gang took the victim’s phone and dumped his remains at Federal Housing Flyover, Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja.
The Police boss further stated that: “As part of the renewed commitment by the command to rid FCT of the activities of ‘one chance’ robbers, the command’s newly created Anti One Chance Squad smashed three notorious gangs and recovered their operational vehicles.” He named the suspects to include: Michael Okafor, 27; Ogbonna Nwovu, 28; Julius Uche, 38; Ike Ugwuke, 36; Christian Nwite, 28; Lucky Nwakona, 22; and Joy Hagba, 34.

KUJ 367 TV; and one Nissan Almera were recovered from the gang members.
Speaking further, he said that three armed robbery suspects: Aliyu Ahmed, 20; Bala Mohammed, 25; and Abdulraham Mohammed, 19; who specialises in robbing residents of the Kugbo Area in Abuja, were arrested by Police operatives on August 22, 2018, following tip-off.
He said that the suspects, who attacked and robbed one of their victims of three phones at her residence located in Kugbo, were arrested with one double barrel gun; one dane gun; two live cartridges; two cutlasses; four knives; six wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, one bottle of codeine syrup among others.
Similarly, one Emmanuel Ayuba, 36, was arrested on September 1, 2018, at City Scape Villa Estate, Games Village, with 38 yards of armoured cables that were suspected to have been vandalised from the estate.
