FCT Police nab 26 for ‘robbery, cultism’, others

The FCT Police Command has arrested 26 suspects over their alleged involvement in armed and one chance robbery, cultism, drug peddling as well as destruction of police and FRSC observation posts at Zuba.

Parading the suspects before journalists at the command headquarters, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Usman Umar, said the arrests was a result of the proactive security measures put in place by the FCT Police Command to beef up security and fight crime in the territory.

According to him, two suspected ‘one chance’ robbers, Chinedu Onyeama, 36; and Chibiuke Ojiribe, 30; were arrested on May 23, 2019, at about 11:40hrs by police operatives from Gwarimpa Division, acting on tip off.

He said the suspects are members of a notorious ‘one chance’ robbery syndicate who operate around Kubwa Express Way and Gwarimpa axis.

“The suspects picked their female victim from Dutse Alhaji as a passenger en-route AYA, but mid-way the victim requested to alight from the cab following the suspicious activities of one of the suspects, Chibiuke Ojiribe, who brought out one US dollar note to pay for his supposed transport fare.

“After she successfully alighted, she shared her experience with a Good Samaritan who took her in his car and trailed the suspects to 3rd Avenue in Gwarimpa, where some policemen on duty in the area were alerted.

“Upon receipt of the information, the police operatives immediately swung into action and arrested the suspects in their green colour Mazda 323 with registration number KWL

188 NU,” he said.

The police boss said exhibits recovered from the suspects include: palm fronts, old clothes, gun powder, leather carpet and a cartoon, adding that investigation is on-going.

Similarly, three suspected cultists: Samuel David, 19; Kefas Audu, 19; and Saad Saleh, 20; all of Jikwoyi, Phase 1, were arrested for attacking one Victor Emenike with dangerous weapons.

DCP Umar said, “On April 22, 2019, at about 21:00hrs acting on tip off, Police operatives arrested the suspects, who attacked one Victor Emenike with dangerous weapons and also chopped-off their victim’s hand.

“The suspects, who are members of the Junior Vikings Confraternity (JVC), noted in their statements that the

Attack, which happened on April 22, at about 20:00hrs was to retaliate for a member of their gang who was attacked and inflicted with serious injury on his hand the same day.”

He said effort was being intensified to arrest other members of the gang who are currently at large.

Similarly, on April 22, police operatives from

Mabushi Division, following a tip-off, arrested one Anthony Chukwuma, 23; and Richard Bassey, 23; all of Jahi 1, suspected to be members of JVC.

The police boss said the suspects, who have been terrorising residents of Jahi and its environs, have been on the police wanted list for their involvement in cultism and other criminal activities.

The command also arrested a suspected drug peddler, Daniel Obi, 36; of Jikwoyi, Phase 1, for being in possession of 40 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, on May 6, 2019.
