FCT police parade 42 for ‘kidnapping, rape, theft’

The FCT police command has arrested 42 people over alleged involvement in kidnapping, rape, impersonation, car theft and ‘one chance’ robbery.

Parading the suspects before journalists, Wednesday at the command headquarters Abuja, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Ciroma, said 26 suspected members of different kidnap syndicates operating along Kuje, Rubochi, Kwali and Abaji axis were arrested in the on-going joint counter kidnapping operation involving the Police, the Military and other security agencies tagged: Operation Sharan Daji.

He said the suspects include one Usman Abdullahi, 40, just as exhibits recovered from some of the suspects include four locally fabricated fire arms; one Dane gun with 10-round cylinder loader; four cartridges, three cutlasses, three face masks, 24 wraps of dry leafs suspected to be marijuana, several identity cards and charms.

Ciroma said police operatives attached to Gwagwalada Area Command acting on a tip off, on October 28, 2019, arrested one Juri Abubakar, 30, a member of a kidnap syndicate at Yangoji.

“The suspect stated that he supplies food to other members of the syndicate who threatened to kidnap the victim.

The prompt intervention of police operatives led to the apprehension of the suspect before the ‘ransom’ was delivered,” he said.

According to him, “Concerted efforts are being made to arrest One Ibrahim, Usman , Dahiru, Jayah, Saidu, Awalu  all male and members of the syndicate.”

In a related development, police operatives attached to Abaji Division, on November 2, arrested a 20-year-old student of University of Abuja Zaharadeen Abubakar, 23; Hamza Garba, 25; Usman Ibrahim, 25; and Jubril Yusuf, 24; and  Ismail Omadivi Tijani; for allegedly conniving and threatening to kidnap their victim who drew the attention of the Police.

He said the suspects demanded N500,000 as ransom before they were apprehended, noting that exhibits recovered from them include: three cutlasses, one Samsung phone, one SIM card and one knife.

The police boss said the suspects would be arraigned in court on conclusion of investigations.
