FCT records 9,652 childbirths in 6 months — Minister

A total of 9,652 deliveries have been recorded in FCT in  six months.
During the period, 7,747 were normal deliveries; 1,865 were C/S deliveries and 14 were instrumental deliveries; as another 413,642 patients was also treated of one form of illness or the other between mid August 2013 and mid February 2014.
This is an overall report from the 12 secondary hospitals and health institutions under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration.

Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, said this at the weekend after meeting with some senior officials of the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat in his office.
The minister said that out of this, 248,099 patients were for General Out Patient comprising of 152,447 adults, 85,012 children and 10,640 accident & emergency cases.

“These health institutions include Rubochi, Abaji, Kwali, Kuje, Karshi, Nyanya, Bwari, Kubwa General Hospitals as well as Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse and Gwarinpa District Hospitals,” he said.
He said further that a total number of 60,271 pregnant women attended the free antenatal programme of the FCT Administration between the same period comprising of 14,517 and 45,752; new and old registered pregnant women respectively.
He also said that under specialist clinics like gynaecology, surgical, medical, paediatrics, dental, ophthalmology as well as HIV/AIDS; about 91,012 were attended to in the FCT Hospitals.
According to him, a total of 14,260 patients were officially admitted in the FCT health facilities during the same period under review with 10,644 patients discharged.
