FCTA begins women, childhood illness eradication plan


 

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun women and childhood illness eradication scheme across the territory.

At the launch of the plan under Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) in Kuchigoro, the permanent secretary Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mr Chinyeaka Ohaa stated that the plan was to support delivery of primary Health Services and provision of Basic Minimum Package of Health Services (BMPS).

He said 131,000 women with normal deliveries, 373,000 under 5-childhood illness or 208, 000 cases of malaria would be treated. 

The Basic Health Care Provision Fund is an intervention by the federal government to improve health outcomes in the country. The bill was passed in 2014.

Ohaa stated that the administration is committed to the delivery of quality health care services to all those residing in the territory.

He said FCTA has met all the eligibility criteria stipulated for the enrolment and operationalisation of the fund. Under the health care service scheme, FCT residents are to benefit from services worth N224 million over the next nine months.

In his remarks, the permanent secretary Federal Ministry of Health, Abdulaziz Abdullahi said the initiative was in line with the present administration’s commitment to universal health coverage.

He said in 2016, “We developed the National Health Policy and in 2018 approved the National Strategic Health Development Plan (NSHDP II). Both documents encapsulate our commitment to achieving UHC and the role of Primary Health Care as the bedrock of the health system.
