FCTA sensitises area councils on disaster prevention

To ensure natural disaster-free 2018 rainy season, the Area Councils Service Secretariat (ACSS), has embarked on community sensitisation on prevention against any occurrence. Director of Administration and Finance (DAF), ACSS, Alhaji Musa Abdulraheem, in a chat with our correspondent recently, revealed that the Administration had devised means of reducing disaster across the area councils.
He further explained that proper sensitisation of residents in each community “will ensure self hygiene, through disposal of refuse, abiding by the environmental rules as well as the need for healthy living.” He said: “As a secretariat, we usually go out of our ways to sensitise the people, because people have devised the means of improper disposal of refuse; they dump it right inside the drainages which causes the blockage of the water channels and we have issues in the past where the administration were called upon for rescue mission to bury the dead or to provide relief materials.
“We were at a crossroads last season when a vehicle plunged into a gully and killed a man and his two kids at an Estate due to bad road caused by erosion. We would not allow this to occur again and we think what we adopt now is second to none.” He also disclosed that the FCTA “is currently taking cue from what happens at other areas like Lagos, Kano and Bauchi, with high rates of flood disaster records with another record of government expenditure on flood and disaster rescue mission.
