FCTA will take human capital devt seriously – Minister

Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged to make radical improvement in human capacity building in the federal capital territory.
Minister of state for FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, said the administration was taking the development of human resources in ‘critical areas’ like health, sanitation, environment and education more seriously.
She said this while receiving a team from the Area Council Service Commission, led by its chairman, Alh. Buba Muhammed Gamawa.
She said: “I want the commission to look at the critical areas. I think the training of primary health workers is important; so I will ask that we concentrate on health, sanitation, environment and education.”
She said area council “is where the majority of work in the country is been done”, decrying civil servants’ attitudes when posted out of their beat.
“FCTA is ready to post the right people to the right place,” she said. “If you are in a place for three years, five years maximum, you are taken to another place so that you can have wide experience. We have witnessed resistance in the past.”
Akinjide added that the area councils in the territory enjoy better packages compared to their counterparts in the states.
She said: “In the entire country, we remain that administration that sets the pace at the area council. We give them their due entitlements with due allocation plus the ten percent of our IGR on time, in full and I believe that we have shown by this that we not only obey the letter of the constitution but with the spirit of the constitution.”
