Fear grips residents as gunmen invade Zamfara, kill 30

At least, 30 members of Zamfara state Civilian Joint Tasks Force (CJTF) have been killed by a group of yet to be identified gunmen at Kwaren Shikafi village in Shinkafi local government council area of the state.

A resident of the area identified as Alhaji Bala Abubalar Shinkafi in an interview with Blueprint said the bandits in their hundreds ambushed the Civilian Joint Tasks Force operatives while escorting traders from Kware village to Shinkafi after Thursday market.

He said several traders were injured during the attack as the bandits made away with property belonging to traders worth millions of naira.

“We have buried 31 dead bodies while those that sustained injures have been taken to Shinkafi General Hospital for urgent medical attention,” Abubakar said.

He lamented that no security personnel have been deployed to the area to restore peace adding that their lives were in serious danger as a result of the bandits’ attack.

He appealed to federal government to deployed more troops to the state in a bid to combat the armed banditry.

When contacted, the state Police public relations officer, Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the incident, adding that a combine team of mobile police and conventional army have been sent to the area to restore peace.
