Federal University Kashere to establish College of Medical Sciences

The Federal University of Kashere has inaugurated a nine-man committee for the establishment of the College of Medical Sciences.

Inaugurating the committee, in Kashere, Gombe state, vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Umaru Pate, said the committee members were eminent scholars in various fields of medical sciences.

“The terms of reference of the committee were to come up with a proposal for the establishment of College of Medical Sciences with relevant programmes.

“Also to identify suitable-chancellor for the university that would facilitate the take-off of the college and identify and recommend suitable and qualified staff for the take-off of programmes in the college.

“Others include the coming up with curricula for the proposed programmes of the college and initiating the process for resource verification of the programmes by the National University Commission (NUC) and other regulatory agencies among other things.

He said the committee was expected to submit its report to the VC within three months from the date of inauguration.

Speaking on behalf of the committee members, Professor Abubakar Bakari of the Department of the Histopathology, University of Maiduguri thanked the VC for finding them worthy to serve in the committee.

He said the establishment of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the university was timely considering the humanitarian and social challenges in the region.
