Federation Cup: Insurance pip Rangers to emerge winners, 43 years after 

Bendel Insurance are champions of the  Federation Cup after beating seven time winners, Rangers International of Enugu by a lone goal at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Wednesday evening.

It was Insurance first title in 43 years. The Nigeria Football Federation and Cup sponsor also doled out a princely N15m to the Benin Arsenals.

Insurance hotshot Imade Osehenkhoe scored from the spot The Benin Arsenals were awarded a penalty late in the first half after Chinerwm Ugbwueze handled the ball inside box.

Ugbwueze was sent off forthe offence, his second booking of the game.

Imade colly slotted the ball home sending Rangers goalkeeper Detan Ogundare the wrong way.

Both teams created goal scoring opportunities afterwards but were let down by their poor marksmanship.

It was Bendel Insurance’s fourth Federation Cup title and their first in 43 years.

Monday Odigie’s side alongside Rivers United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

In the female version, Bayelsa Queens triumphed over Rivers Angels . The match ended goalless after regulation time .In the ensuing penalties shootout the Bayelsa Queens won 4-2.
