Fedponek Rector cautions over fake news on social media

Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Dr Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa has sounded a note of caution to people who post falsehood on social media, saying they should desist from it.

Describing the act as “menace of social media”, he advised that they should try as much as possible to get their information correct before they go to press as anything quickly posted without cross-checking the information would have a damaging effect on the target.

Arimanwa who was speaking when members of the Association of Mbaitoli Journalists(AMJ) paid him a solidarity visit in his office made it clear that most of the things on social media about his school were done by those who are not students of the school but living in the host communities and parade themselves as students.

The Mbaitoli LGA born Rector thanked journalists for deeming it necessary to visit him. He also commended them on their willingness to partner the school in the area of publicizing the activities of the school.  Chief Librarian of the polytechnic, Dr Chris Enyia collaborated in his vote of thanks also alluded to it.

The high point of the visit was the award of honour bestowed on Arimanwa by the AMJ in recognition of his achievements in administration, spirituality and human understanding, resulting in the improvement of staff welfare, completion of projects and general peaceful atmosphere in the school.
