FEYReP partners UNFPA to sensitise families on reproductive health

Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-initiative ( FEYReP), a pet-project of the wife of the Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Tuesday June 25th, organised a one-day community engagement and capacity building for integrated Reproductive Health and Family Planning in the state.

The one-day Programme which is geared towards reduction of maternal mortality and newborn morbidity and as well promote healthy living in the family,  took place at the Divine Children’s Home, Atan offot, Uyo, the state capital.

 Family heads, village heads, women and youth leaders, faith based organisations and community leaders across the three senatorial districts of the state participated in sensitization exercise.

 Coordinator of FEYReP, Mrs. Ime Inyang who stood in for the governor’s wife, said the sensitization campaign is aimed at raising awareness on reproductive health and family planning among families.

Inyang  further stated that to achieve the desired results, FEYReP decided to collaborate with Primary Health service providers, Traditional institutions, Youth led organisations, women groups and faith based organisations to help amplify the message at the grassroots.

 She said the campaign is one of the many avenues of FEYReP to promote a healthy family unit, stressing that Mrs. Emmanuel remains committed to showcasing successful indigent families through innovative alliances.

Also speaking, Mrs. Veronica Inyang, a nurse who served as one of the resource persons, asserted that the programme has helped sensitise rural women and men on vital issues regarding reproductive health and family planning.

While expressing optimism that the exercise would yield the desired results especially at the grassroots, she appreciated the governor’s wife for putting up the event for the benefit of the society.

Lending his royal support, the Paramount Ruler of Etim Ekpo LGA, His Royal Majesty, Professor Amanam Udo while speaking with the Press said the awareness programme was a commendable one, noting he was one of the leading voices of the campaign years back.

A cross section of participants who spoke expressed satisfaction with the information received and thanked the governor’s wife for partnering UNFPA to bring the campaign closer to the people at the grassroots .
