FG backs Kano govt against drug dealers – Perm sec

The permanent secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health, Ambassador Sani S. Bala, has said that the decision taken by the Kano state government to sanitise the operations of drug dealers had the backing of the federal government.
Speaking when he paid a curtsey visit to the Kano state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Bala said the decision came as a result of the advocacy meeting held between the Federal Ministry of Health, Kano state government and other stakeholders on the implementation of the national drug distribution guidelines.
The permanent secretary, who was represented by Alhaji Ali Bashir Magashi, said the guidelines provided a distribution channel “which is in consonance with the national drug policy, as it identifies sources of drugs for every level of health care delivery.”
He stressed that government was concerned about the poor drugs distribution system which gave rise to the proliferation of illegal open markets.
Also speaking, the health commissioner expressed appreciation for the meeting which, he said, would give them more courage to continue to checkmate the activities of drugs dealers in the state, adding that it was a measure taken to ensure that genuine drugs were sold to the public.
