FG to begin reconstruction of herdsmen ravaged areas – Osibanjo

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo yesterday said the federal government is committed to ensuring that Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by herdsmen attacks are rehabilitated and their homes reconstructed. Osibanjo, who visited Abagena and Daudu IDPs camps in Makurdi and Guma, during a two-day working visit to Benue, said the federal government has already approved N10 billion for immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction of areas ravaged by the herdsmen attacks in Benue and other states.
He said he was in the state on the directive of the president who has insisted that he takes full responsibility to ensure that succour is provided to those displaced and those whose homes have been ravaged by the crises. According to him, federal government is committed to provide security for those displaced to return home, adding that plans were on the way to provide facilities for farmers to go back to their farming activities.
He stated that part of the decisions of the federal government is to also construct and reconstruct schools in the affected areas to ensure that children are provided with quality education. “I want you to understand and have confidence that as Nigerians, nobody is doing you any favour by providing security or rebuilding your houses that have been destroyed or by providing education for you.
This is your right as great people of this country. “We have as part of federal government programme micro-credit scheme for women and artisans and Anchor Borrowers Scheme for famers. “You must organiser yourselves to be able to benefit from these loans. Let me assure you that the suffering you are going through is only the beginning of the good things to come,” he said. Speaking, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, said the state was facing a huge humanitarian crisis due to the high number of persons displaced as a result of the herdsmen attacks.
