The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development has commenced training of 87 independent monitors for the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP).
Minister Hajiya Sadiya Farouq stated this while speaking during flagging off of the training in Gombe.
She said the training was for one day and the 88 participants engaged would be saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the implementation of the Social Investment Programme (SIP) in the state to ensure that the objectives were achieved.
The minister, who was represented by Mr Silas Wuyah, the chief admin officer in the ministry, said the training was currently taking place across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said at the end of the training, each participant would receive a letter of engagement that contains the terms and reference of the work they were expected to do.
He said the monitoring exercise was for one year, but subject to renewal, depending on their performance.
Also speaking, Mr Muzirril Yahaya, the programme officer of the NSIP in Gombe state, said the programme was categorised into four components of N-Power, Home Grown School Feeding,
Conditional Cash Transfer and the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme.
He said the programme intends to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
He enjoined the participants to be partners in progress and not to be antagonistic to ensure the success of the programme in the state.
Similarly, the state director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs Sarah Yepwa, commended the federal government for initiating the programme, which she said was positively impacting the lives of children.
