FG calls for establishment of SERVICOM at sub-national level

The federal government has advocated for the adoption of SERVICOM at the sub- national level.

This call was made when the National Coordinator/CEO SERVICOM, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, made her presentation to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, recently.

Mrs. Akajemeli, during her presentation, informed the council that service delivery is an initiative of the federal government, conceived to promote effective and efficient service delivery in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in order to fight against service failures by ensuring that organs and all levels of government in Nigeria deliver to citizens and other residents in the country, services they are entitled.

According to a press statement issued Monday by the Public Awareness Manager (SERVICOM) Presidency, Henrietta Okokon (Mrs), government is about the people and public offices exist to fulfil the mandate of government, which is to serve the people.

She said SERVICOM therefore focuses on improving the quality of contact with citizens and government by working with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure effective service delivery.

The SERVICOM boss highlighted that its adoption by the states/sub-national level will translate to effective and efficient service delivery to the citizens at the grassroots and thus improved quality of lives.

While speaking on the commitments to improving service delivery at the sub-national level, Mrs. Akajemeli proposed for the establishment of a SERVICOM office to operationalise these commitments; coordinate their implementation; monitor and report on progress; survey customer satisfaction; and support the implementation of service charters.

In her words: “The overriding aim of this programme is to ensure improved service delivery to the citizens by making service delivery process and systems much more open, accountable, citizen centred, transparent at the grassroots by putting systems and mechanisms in place that would provide quality service to the people.”
