The International Centre for Development and Budget Advocacy (ICD) has commended the federal government for its novelty approach in the revitalisation process of the tertiary education system.
In a press statement by its executive director, Barrister Armstrong Ukwuoma, on Wednesday in Abuja, the ICD expressed satisfaction and excitement at the prompt and creative steps, the Federal Ministry of Education is taking in reviving the dying university education.
The statement said: “Apart from the letters of allocation of the N200 billion intervention fund to public universities, we are, particularly, in total solidarity with the federal government on its plan to institute a sustainable mechanism that will guarantee that the money is used to improve infrastructure in public institutions.
“The plan by the Supervising Minister of Education to get the public tertiary institutions to give account of how they are expending public resources from the month of March 2014 in all the designated centres in the six geo-political zones is in conformity with the advocacy objectives of the ICD.”
According to him, the objectives of the International Centre for Development and Budget Advocacy include to ensure that the commonwealth of the Nigerians works for them, “as against the promotion of looting of public resources by individuals in positions of authority in a critical sector that holds the key to human and national development.”
While urging the ministry to guard against the sabotage of “this great idea by agents of darkness in the sector,” ICD called for an integrated monitoring and evaluation process.
