FG to deliver 24 housing units in Edo

The federal government has promised that 24 units of housing being constructed as part of the National Housing Programme in Edo State will be delivered before the end of 2018 The Zonal Director of the ministry, Mr. Daminabor Oko-Jaja, made the disclosure recently at an on the spot assessment of ongoing construction at Idumwu-Ehigie in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, the work which started last year has been well funded with attainment of 80 percent completion, stressing that the programme was designed with 100 percent local content.
Oko-Jaja explained that out of the 14 contractors handling the project, four of them have completed their own jobs.
The estate, according to him, is made up of 24 units, 14 units of bedroom semi-detached bungalows.
The others, he said, include three stores condominium block of four units of three bedroom
Town planners task govt on urban devt
The chairman, Abia State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Nelson Nwaosu, has called on federal, state and local governments and urban planners in the built environment to take a holistic view of urban transition in order to promote healthy urban development.
The urban planner spoke at the 25th Silver Jubilee Anniversary of Abia State chapter of NITP with the theme: Jubilee of Urban Transition, with foundation-laying ceremony of its secretariat road work, book launch and anniversary lecture.
Nwaosu also called on all urban planners to imbibe innovative planning and governance strategies to create more liveable, sustainable, equitable, healthy and productive cities.
“In the planning and designing of new communities, housing projects and urban renewal, the planners in both private and public sectors need to give explicit consideration to the kind of world that is being created for the young generations who will grow up in these settings”, he said.
