FG donates 360mt assorted foodstuff to poor, vulnerable in Yobe

The federal government Friday handed over 360 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities to the Yobe state government for distribution to the poor and vulnerable persons in the state.

The Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, while speaking at the launch of the food items, said he was directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the state and hand over the commodities to the state government for onward distribution.

Aliyu said President Buhari had approved the emergency release of assorted food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve stock for onward distribution to the displaced and vulnerable to cushion the effects of rising prices of food items.

Receiving the items, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and good people of Yobe state to the federal government for the assistance it had been rendering to victims of all types of conflict and natural disasters in the state.

He assured the federal government that the commodities would reach the targetted members and other vulnerable households.

The food commodities were 210 metric tonnes of maize (4200 bags) 50kg; 60 metric tonnes of millet (1, 200 bags) 50kg; 60 metric tonnes of sorghum (1,200bags) 50kg, and 30 metric tonnes of grain (1, 200 bags) 50kg.
